Brief was to replace existing hardwood conservatory which had aged and in need of repair. The design required consideration as the existing house oozed of character. Necessary consultations with Architect and Conservation authorities allowed for the wonderful Orangery to be given the go ahead. Due to the character of the existing structure it was essential that the materials used in the new Orangery were similar and we sourced from a salvage yard in England and they provided the perfect match. The roof design was restricted from council as to height and we required to come up with a design to allow for height restriction which included valley and hips with leaded flat top sections. Whilst a complicated roof design this created fantastic ceiling angles and detail to interior. The client wanted a room which allowed heat retention in winter and summer coolness. The interior raised vaulted ceilings with triangular apex windows allowed the light required into the design and transparency connection to the exterior gardens. The key was to have a room that could be used for early morning coffee with friends, evening entertainment both winter and summer and be an all-round space for many uses. Interiors included recessed cornice style pelmets to disguise the blinds and curtains plus detailed ceiling beams and ceiling decoration. Heating to the space was provided through underfloor heating and secondary back up through radiators heated through two separate boilers. Truly a fantastic addition to a fantastic home.
